Design Thinking & Innovation webinar insights

How to make your company innovate?

🤩 This Tuesday, we shared the latest insights on Design Thinking and Innovation that we learnt this summer from Design Council, Founders Factory, Stockmann,
and many more!

If you missed it, check out the webinar recording below! 🎥 👇

And if you want a quick preview before that, check out a few of these highlights below. 👇

ANY MEASURING IS BETTER THAN NO MEASURING

Any type of measuring is crucial. Use main metrics, KPIs (for example, amount of active users), and case-specific metrics.

Ask yourself: Why is someone active? Why is someone passive? Start building an activation journey for them! No need to start with complex tools, you can use Excel to begin with.

Sometimes tracking gets tricky. For example, Stockmann
knew that male customers were not presented in their data, so they started measuring males a bit differently. Find ways to measure what is important.

USE SPECULATIVE DESIGN TO REDUCE RISKS

The future is uncertain. Some things might happen, some things might not happen, but there are some futures that we would prefer, and we want to prepare for those.

Identify the signals, use the 'future wheel' to map out the direct consequences, then map out the indirect consequences...this will then give you that fresh perspective. Then use backcasting to ideate a strategy to avoid risks and come to a desirable future.

REFRAME YOUR THINKING

"Framing" is typically how we think and process situations during our day.

For example, if people are fighting in a bar, we might assume it's because they are criminals. Should we change this thinking?

TPXimpact suggests if we reframe the situation, we will find new opportunities and more productive methods. People might be fighting near the bar because they are bored and stuck in one place. Now we can think how to solve this.

DEFINE YOUR OWN SUSTAINABILITY

😶 Stockmann is a big retailer which makes sustainability.
talk a little bit harder for them. Customers trust Stockmann to be sustainable. But what does that mean? Is it materials or ways to manufacture? Is it logistics or packaging?

Define what sustainability means for your company! Then choose your collaborations and sources based on this.

For example, for Stockmann, it is not only the origin that defines if the product is sustainable but also how long and how many times materials are transported.
